British Columbia 2003
We finally made it!

We finally got moved up to Moberly Lake, British Columbia on Tuesday, May 20, 2003. After the previous year and a half of planning, we were so happy that this day was finally here! The first day to begin the biggest adventure of our lives...

Our first day and a half was spent getting settled into the house we rented on Moberly Lake. By that second night we were in the woods! We all love to hunt but more importantly we needed to get out into the territory and see what was out there. We were hoping to take some nice spring bears for the advertising aspect of the business also. And we weren't disappointed! Less than 72 hours after our arrival to the area, one of our twin 11-year-old sons Phil shot a HUGE seven foot black bear!

Paul and I were sooooo proud of Phil. This was his first hunt and to come home with such a nice trophy! We came across the bear as it was sleeping in a deep ravine. Our guide Franz Kirschbaum actually had to wake the bear up so Phil could get a good shot. His first shot was right into his shoulder. The bear stumbled around and with the fact he was very close to dropping off a 300 foot deep canyon, Phil got into position right away for a second shot. This shot took the bear right behind the shoulder and he didn't go far. He slid very, very close to the edge of the drop off and luckily got snagged in a small tree right on the edge! We still had to get the bear into a sled and pull him up the edge of the ravine with a truck he was so big!
Phil was thrilled and his twin brother Jake was equally thrilled. Jake was so happy for Phil and now it was his turn to hunt!

We spent the next few days out with Jake but the bears were scarce. We did see a few and Jake actually got to stalk one or two, but didn't get to take the shot. We saw tons of elk, moose, coyotes, foxes and deer which was very cool though. We also spent some time hiking in to view some of our remote bush cabins during the day when we couldn't be out hunting.

The mountains and rivers were beautiful and the game seemed to be everywhere!

We had our first official hunter for the spring bear season the following week which kept Jake out of the woods for several days. But as soon as we could we were back out with him. The greens seemed to be getting more abundant now and so were the bears. We came across a couple other shooters and Jake got to work on his stalking techniques a few more times. Finally on the 5th stalk he had success. And what sweet success it was!!! He also shot a HUGE seven foot black bear!

Paul and I were sooooo proud of Jake now with his bear!!! This was his first hunt too and he did an awesome job. They had quite a stalk going as the bear just kept moving away from them. He finally got a chance from about 150 yards away and pulled it off in one shot right through the lungs. His bear didn't go 30 yards! Phil was equally excited for Jake and glad to have his twin share in being successful.

It was an awesome start to our new lives in British Columbia having our boys do so well on their first hunt in our new "backyard." We are also beginning construction on our new home and hunting lodge inbetween hunting and learning this magnificent hunting territory, pictures to be coming soon! Our whole family is so happy to be living here and enjoying this beautiful area! Our business partner, Tom Benzinger, is still back in the States, waiting patiently *BG* to make the move up to join us. We're hoping it will be soon so he can enjoy this awesome place with us! Check back often as we post more news and more adventures, and check out our official website...
