The light metal, lithium, was discovered in mineral compounds, by August Arfvedson in 1817 and electrolyticaly purified by Sir Humphrey Davey (also, independantly by Brande) in 1818. Lithium metal is reacted with water and its red atomic emission is observed in laboratories. |
