London 1999 Diary

Wed., Dec. 15, 1999, 8:55 AM

'Annoying' is the best way to describe my day so far, I think. First, I though Dad and I had agreed that we would knock on each other's door and go to breakfast together. So I wound up knocking on his door for 20 minutes before I finally went to breakfast myself, where I found him. He's been there about 15 minutes.

Then, when I got to the train station at 8:30, I found out that they only sell travelcards at 9:30, so I needed to find something to do with myself for an hour. And to top it off, my pen ran out, so I needed a new one. At least I got a good one, but for the kind I like it's expensive. (2 pounds or $5).

Enough griping, though.

Yesterday as I was on the tour I found out some really cool things. One on the most interesting was how many modern expressions come from the Tiber, the place they used to hand people in London. Before people were hung, they were given a bottle of ale. So, for example: 'one for the road' comes from that. So does 'on the wagon', 'pulling your leg', and 'hung over'.

I've decided that I don't want to go to the London Dungeon. Unlike some people, I don't like nightmares, and I would like to sleep well in London, thank you very much.

I'm so happy this is the last day I'll have to wait for the train. : )

Dad and I are hopefully going to see Midsummer's Night Dream, Spirit of the Dance, and a singer that Dad really lies (though her name escapes me at the moment).

I wonder what everyone at home is doing now. I wish I could talk to everyone and get up to date, but it's much too expensive. Oh! Have to send an email to Jeff later. Must remember that.

Okay, can't think of anything else now. Until later then.
