Tomorrow I start my season of travels. We leave for Vegas around
noon. We equals my female companions and production mates.
We’ve been working together for 2 years and have formed quite the production
unit. In fact, we have toyed with the idea of starting out own Production
Company. So this weekend we will be filming a dog show and it’s quirky
dog owners. I get to interview a woman who seeking plastic surgery
for her dog’s tits. Apparently they sag. Then there is the
woman who’s been suspended for bleaching her dog’s hair for the shows.
This is a no-no. Also there is a woman who takes her dog to a shrink
cause he is disturbed when he doesn’t win the contests. It ought
to be a lively time. Then of course, at night we will be free to
roam the strip. Heh, heh. I hope to have an adventure to share
with you. If not, I’ll make it up!
Then the next weekend I will be in Los Angeles. The first thing we are going to do is watch the final season episode of Friends being taped. I think we may only stay for the camera blocking. Bruce Willis and Tom Selleck are making guest appearances. Robbie Benson is directing and he is the one who got us permission to watch. Then we are touring studios and going to watch some Foley editing on a French Film (Jo in Toronto…I still haven’t found out the director’s name, sorry) A former class alumni is the post production director. Then we are gonna tour the film lab where our shorts will be printed (if I ever finish mine!) We are gonna dip our toes in the Pacific too. This will be my first time in California. Perhaps with my profession it won’t be my last. I have a feeling this trip will help me decide.
Then I will probably make two trips to Florida and one to Memphis and Mississippi this summer. I guess my scuba certification will just have to wait AGAIN!
I worked an out door nighttime shoot this week. It was a second scene for Alan’s piece (the one with the Chinese bar owner) Kimball the actor playing the drunk is doing two independent films this summer. He got $40k to start up. He bought a sony camera for $17k and was picking my brain about sound recording. He also wanted me to help writing grant proposals for more money more money more money. So I think I might just see if I could work that movie. I need some things on my resume. I know the director. He cast my directing scene last year. He owns the acting studio, Studio Nine. The script is Kimball’s. He is also working on a film financed by some folks in Las Vegas for $4 million. Nice chunk of change for a bare bones production. I am so happy to make these connections. I need some business cards!
Anyway, I keep having these little zingy adventures that keep me getting up and out of bed. I just know something wonderful is just around the corner waiting for me to come skipping along. It makes me happy to think that.
