Sorry for the delay but I have been working my free time on student film projects. I am growing depressed as I have yet to shoot mine. My plot was supposed to be on February 14th...however the fetchin' daffodils are out and the leaves are budding. I guess I'm gonna either have to change the story a bit or drag everyone up to a higher elevation. MOAN.
Each film I work on has it's own unique adventures and hurdles. One shoot was at a bar/sandwhich shop called BIG ED's. Big Ed is a petite Chinese woman. She is a shrewd business woman too. Always complaining. Sorta like a farmers' wife, but more vicious. If there's a dollar to be made (more like squeezed out) she's gonna do it. The poor sap who wanted to use her place paid her to use it. It closes after 3pm on Saturdays. It was free money for her. She and her friends decided to play chinese poker and drink beer while we filmed...they weren't budging. So we had to use them as extras...which was okay having some poker playing folks drinking pitchers of beer in the scene. However, she complained about the bright lights we were using and how they were going to run up her power bill. We explained that we were using Kinkos power (with their permission). She got tired of seeing the same scene all the time (shot at different camera positions) She also announced that she decided we should be done at 11pm and patted her foot until we were packed up and out at 11:01. I didn't feel so bad when I heard her tell her friends they had run up a tab for $30 in beer as well as what they owed her for her poker winnings. They looked at her like she had to be joking. But she wasn't. They were upset as they thought it was her treat. No, no, no. No treat for you! See what I mean.
The next shoot was in the alumni building which was also rented for the evening. We had a reception room with a grand piano. The scene was of a small intimate piano concert. Tuxes were rented and champagne and strawberries were props. It looked really nice. However, the cameraman got sick and barfed on the second shot. The concert almost had a new plot twist as everyone got a wiff...
Oh please God, make it so I can one day get to do this for money.
