Jazz and autumn feelings [ September 26, 2001 ]

I happened upon a vocal jazz CD two weeks ago, and have been hooked ever since. It is so much music for rainy, dull autumn days, so pacifying, so full of longing, even while I have to work at home.

Given the present state of the city, I would not mind to elope to New York in the 1940's and 50's, dress in classy skirts, have my fringe cut short again, stay out late at night in bars and talk and sit around. Longing.

I have always had this notion. Then I finally saw "Lolita" on tv three weeks ago, and then came the CD. For the past few days I have been searching the web for resources, in love with the voice of June Christy and this song, Softly, As In A Morning Sunrise especially.

It makes me feel like Friday night, like I was one of the pieces of paper in sparkles, flying high above our heads, floating high over the fire.
