When it comes
to the subject of love and passion, the Aquarius man would rather read
a book. Or see a good movie. Or make a good movie. Or explain how happy
he is because after all these years, he has found a woman who is the perfect
friend.
To the typical
Aquarian man, anything too emotional is considered slightly offensive.
In perfectly rational terms, he'll explain why. This may and probably does
take up most of what was originally considered to be a perfect evening.
Bedtime passes by in a blur of hot feverish announcements about historical
imperatives and social betterment.
The Aquarian
man is cold when it comes to anything too emotional. And any woman
who is right there with him beat by beat, late-night critical debate after
late-night critical debate, is sure to get straight to his soul. The Aquarian
man's ideal woman is somebody who is brilliant, shares his ideals, and
becomes his best friend.
And then there
is his fantasy. The Aquarian man's problem is that he is compartmentalized.
His heart is in the attic, his sexuality is in the basement and his brain
is in the far beyond. Therefore, his feelings about women are often in
conflict. Likewise, women are often frustrated concerning his behavior
toward them.
There is a little
of the old "goddess and the whore" thinking to the Aquarian male's orientation.
It is not that he is asexual as he might appear. Rather, he is suppressed
because he is devoured by a megawatt thinking process that prevails like
a dominant parent. Therefore, if he is typical of his sign, he is not terribly
turned on by the idea of sex on an ongoing basis, because for anything
to have a vital place in his life, it must pass through his head. And usually,
there is already so much in his head that it's like a mass sit-in to save
the world.
Because of their
compartmentalized makeup, Aquarian men can get caught up in pornography
and/or sadomasochistic pursuits. They can also become severely alienated
and waste years of their lives analyzing. Because their minds tend to be
so fixed they are very slow to change or grow.
The realm of
love is central to the core of human possibility because it requires an
extension of our boundaries, an ability to get beyond our small ego self
to incorporate "the other" into our existence. In so doing, we have the
opportunity to grow and become more than we originally were. However, it
is here that many Aquarian men have trouble. The head says one thing, the
sexuality another, and the heart yet a third. However, all along the word
that keeps popping up in conversation is "friend".
Aquarian men
are often hopelessly confused without even knowing it. They are not in
touch with their feelings and substitute their minds for their heart. Consequently,
they can be cold, detached and insensitive to those subtleties that are
warm and human. It is far easier, more natural and less messy just to be
someone's friend. To the Aquarian man, it also feels a lot more elevated.
In their minds,
Aquarian men can love a lot of people in a lot of ways, and the love is
lofty and transpersonal. However, with a very heavy one on one, their sense
of freedom is compromised, and their cherished ideals are challenged. This
is not a happy feeling.
However, when
an Aquarian man avoids personal love for too long, he becomes cut off and
alienated. This deadness and fragmentation becomes a sickness in his soul
that contaminates his entire life. His power comes from emotional integration
and from being able to bridge the personal and transpersonal through his
being. Then his edges are rounded out and he is not merely a brain but
a force behind his own brilliance. Through love, his brain can meet his
lower depths and give power to his heart and his sexuality. Love can vitalize
his entire being by making him more aware of himself, as a being and
a body. The Aquarian man, perpetually so other-oriented, needs to feel
himself in a way that has meaning. This wisdom has great power,
for it breathes of human possibility.
Unfortunately,
many Aquarian men have to go through a serious crisis before they are able
to emerge from their mental containment. Old ways of seeing, hearing and
believing must die and their minds become a void through which mental illusions
evaporate like phantoms. This is a terrifying process for such a fixed
mind, but it clears the way for a new way of feeling. The mind has found
its heart in all its simplicity. As the personal feelings begin to flow
like a quiet hum of peace, so will the Aquarian man begin to know his own
power.
