Boracay, Philippines - January 25, 2006
Another day in paradise. I'll do my best to describe Boracay. Its essentially a very very long white-sand beach with torquoise waters. There are a few juttings rocks not far off that are picture-perfect. There is a White Beach Lane with parallels the beach which is perfect for pedestrian traffic. Its essentially sand as well, so easily walkable without shoes or sandals. Along White Beach Lane lies tons of businesses of every kind you can imagine. Mostly restaurants, bars, dive shops, tourist stuff and so on. It takes a long, long time to go from one end to the other. A few hours can go by easily just trying to do this. Once you run to the end of White Beach Lane, then you can just follow the beach itself which is still filled with more farther away bars, restaurants, and hang-out spots.
Of tourists, there are every kind. I heard lots of German everywhere - they seem to be everywhere in the Philippines. Lots of Koreans around as well. Essentially all kinds of people from everywhere. Because its just about what it is, I can't really comment on interest happenings in themselves. I did thoroughly enjoy all of the many live music establishments. I can't help but think that most Filipino musicians know extensively songs by artists such as The Eagles, Jim Croce, James Taylor, Bob Marley, etc. Essentially a good song with an acoustic guitar solo singer type of song. Great to sit at the beach and enjoy though.
In regards to what is next. Well, there is a Mardi Gras like party happening in Iloilo this coming weekend. So the plan is to go in that direction and just see how that goes.
More on the Philippines..
