Seoul, Korea - September 2, 2002

My last night in Seoul. I was pretty lucky as when I got back to Seoul I was able to pick up a few hours of parttime work for a few nights each week. It was almost going to keep me around, but ultimately I want to get moving on to the next place. Tomorrow I fly to Hanoi, Vietnam.

One of my classes was particularly funny and memorable this week (private lessons here in Seoul - not down in JinJu). But often times the students tell you someone who you kind of resemble. I had the weirdest one ever this last week. One of the students told me that I resembed 'Paul McCartney'.. then they all agreed.. and then another student said I resembled 'Mr. Bean' from England.. the other students promptly agreed and there was a short discussion and they decided I was a cross between Paul McCartney and Mr. Bean!! Pretty shocking.. the funny thing was when they first said it they said 'did anyone ever tell you you looked like Paul McCartney' and of course I said 'no, never'.. and I was shocked the conversation progressed to some hybrid Bean/McCartney thing.. and they actually seemed shocked that I've never been told that before either!

Well, Seoul has been very nice this week, seeing alot of old friends, and seeing Shinchon and many other very familiar places in Seoul once again. I have been spending alot more money running around and socializing and doing things.. that I'm actually quite glad to be packing my bags and on my way to a new city in a new country. Actually its not that new to me as I did spend a month in Vietnam about a year and a half ago. I was only able to spend about 4 days in Hanoi that time, so it will be quite nice to be staying as long as I want and probably looking for some serious teaching work in the process!!

I've been a little disappointed these last few weeks as I was expecting to be the tour guide for my Filipina girlfriend back in California. She was planning to be in Korea visiting me and traveling around right now at this time. But for whatever reason, her plans changed and it was all cancelled.

Anyhow, I don't know my exact plan at this time. I will definetely look for work and consider staying there for awhile. I also have the ticket going back to Seoul and back to San Francisco as well.. so we'll just have to play it day by day and see what happens.

Well, if you don't see any journals from me in the immediate future you can assume the worst - that I went down in a fiery crash of burning glory.. and that the Vietnam War Viet vets got me and put me in a long-abondoned POW Camp.. either way.. maybe this is the last from me!! Its been fun.. see you on some side of this world (or the next)..
