The house was designed for Joe Slusky, an artist and professor at the University of California, Berkeley. It is located on Shattuck Ave. in Berkeley, a relatively dense, low rise suburban area. The site (82' x 40' x 20') was treated as a solid which was then sliced on a diagonal down the main axis, in plan - to create a private street and courtyard between the house and work space - in the transverse section to maximise natural light into the building. The project was presented as a series on the back of free postcards as Joe uses these postcards as a drawing medium. |
