The Big Day, Conclusion....October 9, 1999
I spent the afternoon and evening with Alyx today. We had not had the opportunity to have that amount of quality time in a great while. It was a nice break from work and stress to be able to have casual conversation over coffee, dinner, Judge Judy, and some movie rentals. I think it was probably a reprieve for Alyx, too, for different reasons. Out of respect for his confidentiality, I will refrain from going into details.
I hope he finds his way.
Thanks for the day, my friend.
I remember so little of the actual ceremony. Actually, let me rephrase that. I remember little of events, but in retrospect, vivid nuances of the emotion continue to wash over me in waves as perpetual as tides. From my depression they cleanse me, and in my lonliness for my bride they comfort me.
The Goddess' mother was responsible for a most regal reception after the ceremony. The last time I had seen such a spread of food was when I was a guest at the Parliamentary Restaurant in Ottawa. We were treated to slow roasted beef, chicken breast in mushroom sauce, fresh veggies, cooked veggies, rice, potatoes, five different salads, fruit trays, and oohhh.....the deserts. While The Goddess and I had not intended something so grand, it was a gift from her mother to her only daughter.
Another gift we were not expecting was our wedding cake. The Goddess chose a scaled down version of a cake she saw on the cover of a Martha magazine. The white cake layers were to be hexagonal with three layers in total, decorated with ivory icing, trimmed in a celtic pattern, with cascading marzipan roses. Well, Cara, whose friend was to make the cake, took matters into her own hands. While the design was what we anticipated, there was one more layer, and it was made in the traditional fashion with different kinds of cakes and fillings. Cara gave it to us as a wedding gift.
We were, indeed, are truly blessed.
After dinner and the usual round of toasts and speeches (including Alyx brandishing our room key that he somehow got hold of and making threats of revealing various items he allegedly found in our baggage), were were entertained by our fathers on guitar and sax, with a friend of The Goddess' father on other instruments (another gift to us).
By the time we said goodbye to the last of the guests, we were exhausted. It was almost one in the morning.
But we were not too exhausted. ....Blessed Be...
