The Spiritual Journey

The Big Day, Part II....October 7, 1999

I stood at the counter, incredulous, anxious, frustrated, and annoyed.

"How could this be happening?", I wondered to myself.

"Let me just call the catering coordinator", she finally offered.

Lowlandz and I stood there for over tne minutes, waiting for the ditz at the hotel to find the room The Goddess and I were supposed to have as part of the wedding package. She did not have the sense to think that it would be the honeymoon suite.

Which it turned out to be.

It was in The Goddess' name.

She should have known that.

With less than forty-five minutes to go befroe the ceremony, Lowlandz and I were still not dressed. I wanted to shower as well, wanted to be as fresh and sparkly as possible.

Making our way to the room, I headed to the shower. I had really been hoping to spend some quality pre-wedding time with Lowlandz, but that had to wait until after I showered.

From the bathroom, I heard the cutting voice of my future Mother's-in-Law roommate, Vixen.

While I was getting dressed, Vixen took it upon herself to invite herself, my sister's kids, and The Goddess' aunt into the room so that they could get the kids changed. This, in the midst of Lowlandz being half dressed himself. By the time I was out of the bathroom, my mother and sister entered the room as well.

My last moments of bachelorhood, the sacred male bonding moments I was looking forward to with Lowlandz, were subjugated by cackling women and hyper kids.

I was furious. I mean, I was really, really pissed off. No one that interrupted took into consideration that perhaps I wanted to have these moments alone with my best man. I was just the Groom. What right did I have to a bit of pre-marital privacy?

There was little I could do.

The damage was done.

The moment gone.

And the lost moment still wounds me, for no one has taken responsibility for stomping all over my right for some privacy.

I am really , truly sorry, Low, my friend.

By the time we were dressed and everyone cleared out, we had time for a half a cigarette to calm my nerves, and then had to rush downstairs, where the Officiator told me that The Goddess had arrived, and we were ready to get things underway.

....Blessed Be...
