Two Before Midnight...
....peace....which is just in what state I spent most of this day. It poured again today, the rain making a perpetual pitta-patta sound against the windows, the sky, looming various shades of grey, and a breeze strong enough to refreshen the household air had it not been too cold to leave the windows open.
After sleeping in late, The Goddess trodded off to the corner store for rainy day supplies, consisting of smokes, doughnuts, and coffee cream. Upon her return we fashioned a buffet out of the coffee table consisting of warmed up weekend leftovers, fresh java, chocolate bunnies, chocolate and peanutbutter eggs, quiche, and clean ashtrays. During the feast we watched The Abyss, which Alyx was kind enought to lend us. The Goddess had not seen the movie before, surprisingly enough. The only aspect wrong with the film is that it was made by James Cameron. Othe than that, and by overlooking this one flaw, it is an excellent, provocative movie.
And Herself loved it, as I knew she would.
After it was over, of course it was nap time. Unfortunately, The Goddess slept right through the time that Freda was picking her up for a Weekender party. You know, those kind of vulvapallozas that give people, particularly women, the opportunity to get together, chatter chatter chatter, and buy buy buy in the comfort of some hostess' home.
The ones guaranteed to see most men running for the hills, or the nearest pool hall.
The Goddess has attended several of these lately, and hosted one herself. She is hosting another in mid May. I think it is a bizarre initiation right for a newly married woman, one that becomes ritual.
Good thing I keep the chequebook hidden.
Nevertheless, it has been a day replete with quietude, solitude, fortitude, and little-tude (on Herself's part). She has vowed to quite smoking again, starting tomorrow. While I support her efforts wholeheartedly, she is the Selma Bouvier of smokers, and I pay, pay, pay to the point where I end up begging her to smoke something, anything, to get a grip. This time, she is trying the patch, so perhaps the 'tudes will be less frequent and not as intense.
If not, at least MacGuyver is on twice a day.....
