"Now Where Did I Put That Fly Swatter?"....March 1, 2000

One to Midnight...

...and at this late hour, I find I have a considerable bug up my ass.

Make that two.

Nevertheless, I will swat one nasty insect at a time.

Gas prices went up another two cents per litre today. Since the turn of the milennium, the price has gone up almost twenty cents per litre. Now, to the average citizen, this would be enough, I would suppose, for at least cries of outrage, letters to local politicians, and perhaps just boycotting gas purchases as much as necessary. Nevertheless, I use my car considerably and almost exclusively for work, and have been getting paid the same rate per kilometre for the last five years. Therefore, when gas prices go up, check that, become blatant gouging, I am losing part of my income.

This does not make me happy. Not in the least. Not at all.

I cannot help but think there is a conspiracy going on here. Of course, not against me per se, I do not give myself that much importance in the grand scheme of things. No, I am of the mind that oil companies are looking to increase their profit margins at the expense of consumers who have no choice but to use gas.

I think perhaps that these companies are getting jealous of the banks. But that is a whole other nest of bugs I cannot even consider getting into right now. I have to watch my blood pressure after all.

It is not just those in my business that are getting more than fed up. Truck drivers have been staging blockades. Produce has been rotting. They were just yesterday threatening to strike in a week. So what do the gas companies do?

They increase the price even more.

Go truckers, go. I am with you in spirit.

I would like to know why the government cannot take a break from their own gouging en masse to intervene in this situation. Oh yes, now it is coming to me. We pay for their gas, too.

Silly, silly me.

Speaking about the government, they are the other bug up my ass as of late. I cannot believe the budget that they are trying to pawn off as a good news budget. I fail to see how decreasing corporate taxation, and cutting high income surtax can be anything even close to good news. Any benefits to everyday ordinary citizens are going to take five years to actualize, and by that time it will probably amount to a mere few hundred dollars. The budget is yet again another example of the agenda to make the rich richer, eliminate the middle class, and create even more abject poverty.

Now where are The Goddess' blood pressure pills?...

....Blessed Be...
