Large Format (New Prints)
Last Update: July 18, 2001I
t is a "love" or "hate" problem to the large format photography. I still can't really say that I love it or I hate it.A
t first, I thought the large format will perform similar to other cameras, but I'm wrong. Even though I use the same rules in making exposure as I do in other format, the large format negative just like to give me surprise sometimes.H
onestly, I'm still learning in using the camera. Reading lots of books, and doing lots of experiences. I expect myself to see some imporvement. Here are some "exceptional" successul photographs. I'm totally amazed by the details and lattitude of the negative. I hope I'll make some better imagews to add into this ection. Oh, the reason I make a different page to house my large format works is because many of the prints here are specially taken, because it is large format. To me, many of them are not only still life or landscape, they mean more to me. Anyway, enjoy. E-Mail.
8. Bridal Fall - Yosemite ii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii A very difficult print. Tons of time used to fine tune the print with all the diff burn and dodge(~8 diff areas). It's good to get it done finally. |
7. Yosemite (1) Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii![]() That was a wonderful trip that I had. Yosemite is such a beautiful place that I can make pictures everywhere. Of course my pictures can't compare to Ansel Adams, but all pictures are here to salute to this very best photographer. Note the new moon on the top… This picture is a medium format instead. I just feel odd if I put it somewhere else. |
6. Oregon Sand Dune iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii![]() One of the natural wonder in my trip. It is also the first time I experience the beauty of sand dune too. Too bad the morning is too foggy and whiten out everything on top. |
5. Civic in Iona Island iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii![]() Click HERE to see the enlargement of the Civic I am totally amused by the resolution of this picture. I can even see the dent on the door while the original print size is 11x14!!! |
4. Flate Night Flower (2) iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii![]() Although I think this picture is ok, but the back ground is still kinda out focus. What a pity. |
3. Late Night Flower (1) iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii![]() I don't know what's the name fo this flower. It just open once and only in night time. This is the first time I need to use the f45-f64 range. |
2. Jerico Rock iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii![]() This is another "first". The first one I perfectly control the exposure. |
1. Jerico Sky iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii![]() That is the first timeI use large format. This is the first one I feel ok too. |
P.S.
Now I stuck with the Agfa APX100. No reason more important than price to me now. It is the cheapest 4x5 B&W film around, best fit to a beginner like me. By the way, it works well in most case too.A
ll pictures are taken by Zone VI studio 4x5 field camera with Schneider APO Symmar 180mm lens. Film with Agfapan APX with D-76 jubo drum development (vary from 9-11 mins). Printed on Ilford MGIV RC paper.
