Disclaimer: The X-Men, Excalibur, and their lieu of friends, enemies, and people in between are in no way mine, not even in my dreams. However, Blue (or, as he’s better known as Andre), Haitus, and Jeremy Maxielle ARE. What da ya know! If I keep it up, in thirty years I might get me own book! Lost Cries by Jason Lewan Part 2:Shadow stalker Note: Haitus, for those who don’t remember her from "Just Like The Old Times", is a psychometric telepath, which means that once she touches something, she can get into the person’s mind that touched it last. Mmm….what a nice day it is. I glanced around the Savage Land and pushed a tree out of the way of my face. Even if I am millions of miles away from my friends. Even I am stuck in a savage land with prehistoric animals, plants, and who knows what else. But I prefer to look on the bright side of things. Okay, realistically, I don’t know what bright side there is. I know I’m in the Savage land. I know that Ka-Zar is here somewhere, and I’m more than sure he can help me. But first I have to find him. And even though I’ve been searching for a day, I STILL can’t find him. Patience, Kitty. Patience. You know you’ll get out of here eventually. It’s not like Pete won’t be searching the world over for you. Except that he may not be alive. Forget about it, Pryde. Push it to the back of your head. Concentrate on what you’re doing. Concentrate, just like you learned. But…..still….that feeling that something’s happened. It’s looming over me…I… Oh, what am I thinking? I’ve faced the types of Loki, the Beyonder, the Brood, even demons bigger than London. And I get warped to a far away place, and I tweak. It’s not like this hasn’t happened before. It’s not like it won’t happen again. You’re an X-Man, Kitty. Get used to it. I sighed. Not that I’m not completely bored or anything. Walking through a clearing, I watched all of my sides for signs of life. Nope, not a thing. Or at least as far as I can tell in the Savage Land…. Walking across it, my foot lost it’s balance and I fell. Into a pit dug underground. Shoot! A trap! And I literally walked right into it! Damn! I knew I though that someone was after me. It’s been in the back of my mind the whole day. Well, just watch what develops first. It may not be what I think it is. It almost never is……. Watching the hole’s entrance, I looked up at the ground and saw a group of savage-looking, lizard-like men gathering around it. Ah, Savage Land primitives. So it’s not as bad as I think it is. Maybe they can help me find Ka-Zar. After they started throwing spears down at me, I changed my mind. Phasing through them all and out of the hole, I ran into the forest, hiding in it and taking a deep breath. I phased again and ran some more, until I felt safe going tangible again. Breathing heavily, I paused. Phew. That wasn’t fun. First sign of civilization and it’s a mean hunting party. Great. Well, this is turning out wonderfully. I continued walking through the forest, checking all signs of life all around me. I’d walked a mile or so when I noticed it. Someone was definitely following me. Remembering Logan’s training, since he was the only one who taught me what to do in situations like these, I pondered my choices. I could do it Wolverine’s way, or wait, there is Storm’s way, or…..you know what, I’m gonna do it my way. I allowed the person to get closer to me. Somehow, I could feel them in the back of my mind, almost like they were trying to get in, but couldn’t. Using all the techniques I knew, I blocked them out. Allowing them to get even closer, I grinned. Cocky bastard. You walked right into my trap. Phasing immediately through the ground, I successfully disappeared. I held my breath until my stalker walked over where I was immaterialized. That girl! She was the Acolyte! The one I was fighting before I got sent here! How did she follow me here? Well, no matter, she seems to want to do more harm than good. Jumping up in the air and phasing tangible, I punched her as hard as I could in the stomach. Grabbing her hair, I kneed her in the stomach. Attacking her before she could even think would protect me from whatever form of telepathy she had, but I had to keep moving until she was unconscious. I hit the base of her skull with my hand, and she moved into action. In pain, and apparently unable to use her powers in the confusion, she flailed and tried to attack me. But for all her "power" this girl was no fighter. I blocked all of her amateur moves, and managed to punch her in the nose. She looked awful, and was in pain. I could tell. She wasn’t going to last much longer. Before I could knock her out, a large, wooden spear smacked her up the side of her head, and she fell unconious. Finding the owner of the spear, I saw a tall, built, half-naked blond man. "Ka-Zar!" I shouted. "Do I know you?" he asked. "Your clothing marks you as a friend, as an X-Man." "I am," I enthused, "and boy, am I glad to see you." To Be Continued in Part 3 Author’s Note: I’m ignoring the fact that Ka-Zar is currently in New York in his wonderful comic. But, considering the fact that a couple of weeks passed between "An American Dentist in London" and "My Blue-Eyed Girl" and then some more between that one and my last one, he probably wouldn’t be in New York anymore.
