MOLD MAKING
In order to mold leather and get it smooth a strong form must
be created over which the wet leather is stretched. Here we have
made a plaster mold that was used to shape a fibreglass shell.
Because the plaster is too soft to use with wet leather, we decided
that fibreglass was the best choice as it is readily available
and easy to use. The plaster shell was rubbed with vaseline inside
to act as a resist so the fibreglas mold would not stick. Layers
of resin soaked material were layered into the plaster form and
allowed to set. Later the hardened resin mold was removed.
Makes a great hood ornament ! |
