Poems: Bells

Bells

now cracked and splintered by winters gone by, neighbors who are
now grandparents shuffle to the door slowly because
now these children carry shovels on their shoulders with the first coat of flakes door bells ask:
clean your drive?

now wait for ice cream bells when new warmth infuses the air,
now door open breeze or closed air filtered phone bells say
can she come out to play?

now when fall chill frosts the window school bells bring clamor into class,
now a battery-powered santa cavorts on the cabinet little brassy bells tinkle holiday cheer
now back around they come to shovel the drives.
