*From Hastings, I continued along the English Channel past Pevensey Castle [Roman era ruins] to Beachy Head. What a marvelous place! A "head" is a point of high land jutting out into the sea. More than just a peninsula, in its towering aspect, with cliffs over the water.]Beachy Head was especially dramatic, because the land is actually tilted up towards a shear drop at the cliffs, and far below off the point there is a lighthouse. I spent that night at Blackboys Hostel, a nicely secluded spot, where I met two sisters from Seattle. We had a good conversation, and ended by exchanging addresses.
