Colors

I've always been intrigued by the notion that an object does not "have" color, but only reflects it. What we perceive as the color "of" an object is actually the light it reflects. Taken a certain way, this notion can turn me on my head. I'm afraid my knowledge of physics is too sparse. The exception to the "reflection" rule would be an object that actually emits light. What metaphors can be built from this! Look at people's personalities. Do this person merely reflect what is around him, or does he actually "emit". "I am the Way, the Truth, the Light". Most of us merely try to find a path, seek the truth, see the light. Reflect what we cannot absorb? Kind of a scary thought- what if what others perceive of us were that which we didn't absorb?
