Perhaps unfortunately, my thoughts about the word 'placid' turned to
a rhyming word of tangentially related meaning- 'flaccid'. Placid, in
one definition in my dictionary, means "not easily aroused". Flaccid-
limp, drooping. I apologize for any unpleasant images that may be
conjured in your mind. They could be the basis for a randy little
poem- maybe someone else would want to tackle it?

I'd rather think of the word in bucolic outdoor settings (and I'm not
speaking of rolls in the hay.) Like serene lakes in the early morning,
mist rising, a few minnows and maybe a sunfish or two breaking the
perfect glass of the surface.
Or the Buddha, sitting quietly, contemplating the universe (I started
to write "contemplating his navel", thought it disrepectful, and now,
here I am being disrespectful anyway.)
Being placid is something people could practice when they climb into
the driver's seat. I doubt the Buddha would experience road rage. Or
maybe he would- maybe in today's society, one such as the Buddha
would not have achieved Nirvana.
