NANCY'S RAINBOW

It takes a very special kind of weather,
When the sun and rain appear together.
Just look all around and way up high,
To see a beautiful rainbow in the sky.

Nancy's rainbow is brilliant, I'm sure you'll agree,
With every color you could ever see.
But if the sun should hide or the rain should clear,
Then Nancy's wonderful rainbow would disappear.

So then she'd wait for another time,
When the rain would rain and the sun would shine,
And once again Nancy's rainbow would be,
A beautiful sight for her to see.

TALL TALES TAMMY

Tammy Sue loves to tell a story,
They're always about her fame and glory.
Here are some examples of just a few,
I'll pick the best to tell to you.

She played Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz,"
And charmed and tamed the shark in "Jaws."
She twirled on her toes in a well known ballet,
And went to Broadway and starred in a play.

She rode in a rocket to the moon,
She had hidden inside a secret room,
But she had to come out to save the day,
Because the astronauts lost their way.

She found the biggest diamond in the mine,
And rode a camel in Palestine.
She wrote a book that was number one,
And came in first in a marathon run.

She's been in the circus and rodeo,
Flew in a balloon and surfed in Mexico.
She designed fashions while in France,
And before a king, did a dance.

She's lived in a castle and also a tree,
She swims and skates and loves to ski,
She's a champion in all she does,
She's the very best there ever was.

How do we know none of these stories are true?
Well, I'll leave that decision up to you.
But just remember as these tales are told,
That Tammy Sue is only five years old.

MY DREAM

Oh what a dream I had last night,
I flew up in the sky, such a beautiful sight.
I slid down a rainbow and bounced on a cloud,
I danced and I sang and laughed out loud.

I gathered some stars to put in my hair,
The moonbeams were shining everywhere.
When I awoke this morning and got dressed to leave,
I saw something glistening on my sleeve.

When I looked really close I could see,
It was a sprinkle of stardust that had gotten on me.
Then I looked on my dresser by my brush and comb,
There were the beautiful stars that I wore home.

Now I look up in the sky and what do I see?
The man in the moon is winking at me!
They say things are not always what they seem,
So was it real or was it a dream???

ME

My life is as mixed up as it can be,
Just let me tell you and you will see.
Like buttoning my paper and reading my shirt,
And digging my car and driving the dirt.

I sing my hair and comb a song,
My days are mixed up all night long.
I think I know what my life's all about,
It's upside down, backwards, and wrong side out.

I polish my food and cook my shoes,
I'm crazy I guess, but that's not news.
I mop the dog and feed the floor,
And that's not all, there's a whole lot more.

With the dark of the day and the light
of the night, The stars I don't see are quite a sight.

So if you see me swimming down the street,
Or see me freezing from the heat,
Don't be alarmed or scream and shout,
It's only me being upside down, backwards, and wrong side out.

MAKING A DOLL OF CLOTH

I cut and stuff and sew and sew,
And watch this child of cloth take shape and grow,
And when her body's completely done,
Now begins a lot more fun.

Will she have braids of brown or red?
Or, perhaps, long blond curls upon her head?
Then deciding what her clothes should be,
Is even much more fun for me.

Drag out my scraps of a print in green,
And take such delight at every seam.
Stitch and stitch, away I go,
Pretty lace and satiny bow.

Now my creation is all complete,
From the top of her head to her tiny feet.
She's dressed for a party with make-believe tea,
And even a cup has been poured for me.

Soon she'll sit in a most prominent place,
With an embroidered smile upon her face.
Yes, there she is all prim and fine,
This sweet and wonderful, cloth child of mine.

WHO'S THIS LADY??

When going for a walk the other day,
I decided to go a new and different way.
I went down a narrow and winding path,
To a very different house with a huge birdbath.

I stared in amazement at the sight before my eyes,
Here stood a teapot shaped house of very big size.
All of a sudden a voice came from the spout,
And a funny little lady came tumbling out.

She had tangled hair as orange as a burning flame,
"Come here," she said, "let's play a game."
Her bony knees clicked when she walked,
And around her neck was a key and lock.

She had no shoes but wore mismatched socks,
And instead of a dress she was wearing a box.
"Please," she said, "play my game,"
"Just see if you can guess my name?"

I looked on the mailbox with big letters of red,
"Polly Petunia Potscratcher" was the name it said.
I laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes,
And then I got a very big surprise.

Suddenly I heard my alarm clock in my head,
And I awoke to find I was still in my bed.
Even though so real she seemed,
Polly Petunia Potscratcher was just a funny dream.

OCEAN SCENES

How strange and cool the thick, damp fog,
Be ever cautious of the tumbling log.

And the monsterous wave that may appear,
To snatch and grab then disappear.

The awesome ocean is quite a sight,
With its' constant churning day and night.
The mighty roar will always be,
The ocean's voice calling to me.

The wonderous beauty is beyond compare,
With the graceful seagull in the air.

And as I gaze up into the sky,
A giant paint box has gone awry,
With every color that could ever be,
The gorgeous sunset is a sight to see.

BROWNIE JOE'S PROBLEM

There is a horse, we know of course,
and his name is Brownie Joe,
And this horse, that we know of course,
is certainly full of woe.

His master is a nice little boy,
He gave Brownie Joe a gift with much joy.
It came in a very beautiful box,
But inside was a pair of toe sox.

Now this sweet horse, that we know of course,
Just doesn't know what to do,
Because on his feet instead of toes,
Smooth little hooves he grew.

And so he said to his friends one day,
"Maybe you can help me to find a way,"
"For these beautiful sox I really do care,"
"But on my feet, I never can wear."

The bunnies and chickens could offer no clue,
And the cow and goat didn't know what to do.
So one day after giving it much thought,
To the home of the wisest owl he trot.

Now this horse, we know of course,
Is very happy indeed,
Because this horse, we know of course,
The owl's advice did heed.

He tied the sox together like so,
And now has a scarf to wear in the snow.
Brownie Joe now runs through the clover,
Happy and smiling because his problem is over.

WHY I MOVED

I lived in the house up on the hill,
And sometimes I wished I lived there still.
I'd go to the window and I'd look down,
From there I could see all over town.

I always knew what was going on,
When people were home and when they were gone.
Even at night, I could see so far,
I felt I could reach and touch a star.

But living in town is okay too,
Because all your friends are closer to you.
I really loved my house on the hill,
But being with my friends is better still.
