‘america’

america it is monday and i am sad
america how long can you deny us~
why is love lost in power~
how long will loveless rule last~

america i married you unknown
don't divorce me now
everyone should write to tell you how they feel
america what is your address~
your fax number ~
have you moved lately~

america are you too big for me~
america will you diet~
do you have the fortitude~
promise me, i'll trust you

the skirt gang rallied again on belmont
my supermarket is still unbuilt
from my hill i see the governed
and the government
everyone seems tense

america your debts make me nervous
do you need an accountant~
i wish i knew one

america do you have work~
send me your classifieds
i need a bed and a job
an old hotel bed will do
and an outside job
there is no outside where i live
no distinction at all

america i imagine an ariel photograph of you
the land is bright green and blue
it seems there is room for me

i imagine my occupied stoop
outside the cairo
there is room but it is not
beautiful bright green and blue
