Beach Holiday

Kalani & Alana on holiday on San Padre Island, Corpus Christi.

A Memorable Trip to the Beach
On a short Memorial Day holiday to the Gulf Coast of Texas, Kalani and Alana enjoyed their first exposure to the beach and a taste of the open sea. Actually, they swallowed more than a taste of the sea. The waves were about waist high to a normal adult, but towering immense to a six-year-old, and must have seemed gigantic to a four-year-old.

Nobody knew how they would take to the big ocean washing up On San Padre Island. Some are intimidated at first by the great expanse of water, or perhaps a bit apprehensive facing the water's edge, the new sights, sounds...and yes, the taste. Not these two. Both took to frolicking in the sand and surf like exuberant seal pups...minus the fish, of course.

They even enjoyed riding a boogie board on wind-blown waves breaking on the shore. Dad assisted in catching the right waves, which they rode right up to the sand. Sometimes the surf caught them off guard and took them for a little tumble under the foam. They'd come up sputtering, a bit more respectful of mother ocean.

All in all, a good first trip to the beach. The May weather cooperated with plenty of sunshine, not much haze, and cool winds blowing off the water. The little ones were also real troopers on the long drive from San Angelo and back. We all had a lot of fun. Looking forward to another trip to the beach soon. Meanwhile, they'll be cooling off at the base pool.

Aloha, Joe
