Sweet Dreams

Sweet dreams --
the finger pretends.
Life's song
an unwritten hymn.
The selective verse,
a prelude to a violent past --
but an anthem for the future.

Sweet dreams --
the sun arises,
to shine upon thee.
The pink-splashed sky
sings that melody.

Sweet dreams --
the clouds return.
Careless -- ungratifying --
self-satisfying.

I sing that verse,
basking in the glow --
that newborn sun.
The past
but a memory. 1
