Singing and Songwriting

I find it difficult to live an artist's life while at the same time being immersed in full-time professional employment, whether it be in a corporation or a school system. I have worked as a professional contract computer programmer and as a middle school teacher. During my only year of teaching, I did not complete any songs. Within a few weeks after the end of the school year, I had over a dozen songs in the making. By living simply, I have the freedom to spend long periods of time without working, following a more creative path.

Here are some thoughts that I wrote for the liner notes:
These last several years, my life has grown into an adventure, a passionate journey toward community and purpose, full of struggles and joys and dreams much grander than I ever thought possible. With my first recording complete, I can now share some of these times with you. By writing Ghost of an Ancient Human, Naked People Dancing, There's No Place Left to Go, and Different Story, I share my passion for understanding our current world through a broader, anthropological context. In Five Years and Through My Mother's Eyes, I sing about my niece, sister, and mother. Some of my teaching experiences inspired None of Them Know How to Feel, and The Artist Here is You. Let it Show communicates how much my own inspiration comes from people around me. Her Words Will Still Remain and There's Something Wild About the Sunset share some of my feelings about love. It is when we take the risk to share our joys, struggles, hopes, and dreams with others that we deepen our relationships and lay the foundation for a stronger sense of community. This recording is the mere tip of the iceberg. I am working on over a dozen new songs that I look forward to sharing with you. Countless more songs still lurk in my heart, and countless more will arrive with the dreams that I have not yet dreamed. What a joyous challenge I face to write these songs for you while at the same time reaching for so many dreams. I sincerely hope that this effort benefits some of you out there, and I especially hope that you in turn will find a way to share some of your efforts with me. Thank you for supporting my music. Let me know what you think. Stay in touch!
