KHAL NAYAK isn't your usual cops and robbers story. The tale is of a Villain KHAL NAYAK, Balu Balram (Sanjay Dutt) who has been taken into a life of crime by a corrupt political leader Roshi Mahnthah. Balu joined Roshi Baba after finishing school since his father's law practice was failing, his mother's (Rakhee) salary as a teacher wasn't enough, and his sister hadn't found work in quite a while. He leaves home when his father finds out he is working for Roshi and forbid him. Yet he continued to work for Roshi.
Six years, and many slayings later, Balu is caught by Police Inspector Ram Kumar Sinha (Jackie Shroff). Inspector Sinha claims many a men like Balu have been turned into political assasins and tells the press Balu is their first step in over coming this tragedy. He also believes that inside every villain lies a moral person. Ram is convinced he can find the moral man inside Balu and change him into a better peson for the society.
Balu is Roshi Baba's top man, and doesn't crack under the pressure of police torture. He is also determined to break out of jail and finish his mission for his master. Ram Kumar Sinha has made it clear to Balu, his distant uncle (Anupum Kher), and his fiance Ganga Devi (Madhuri Dixit) that he will forsake everything until he gets hold of Balu's master. For that he even postphoned his marriage Ganga Devi.
Upon learning of Balu's escape for his holding cell, Ganga (who is also in the Police Force) realizes she will not be able to marry her Ram until Balu is recaptured and his master found and arrested. She requests a special assignment to help capture Balu which was rejected by her superiors. So, with the help of her friend, Ganga decides to tackle the capture of Balu Balram by herself.
She first meets up with Balu in the famous choli ke pichhe kya hai choli ke pichhe song. There Balu asks her to ride with him. She accepts the offer. Since they are still on the run, she drops so many clues for the police to track Balu, such as her chudiyaas. This is seen clearly in the song, koi rok sake to rokale mai naachati chham chham...
Balu figures out that Ganga is not just another dancer, she's part of police force, and gives him hard time. But she helps him while he is injured, so he trusts her. And after she gives him a big lecture in being on the right side of the law and everything, he tries to change by first changing his act.
Meanwhile, Ram found out that Balu was his friend when they were young. He also remembers that Balu's mother had helped Ram when they were poor and used to tutor Ram. So he asks Ram's mother for help in capturing Balu and making him see things eye-to-eye.
What happens next? Well if you see a lot of movies, you already know, but still it's exciting andthrilling watching this film...
I really liked this film mainly because of Madhuri's boldness and beauty. The songs are very nicely done and well picturized. This is one of those must see films...
