Note: I am working on a laptop for assignments in this class. I have not had a chance to review these images on a real monitor. If my color preferences seem a little off, blame it on the laptop (and perhaps, my taste). No graphic designer in her/his right mind would use a laptop for production work!
shortcuts to images:
image 1 after curves
image 2 after gamma
image 3 after hue/saturation
Original Image
I started by playing with curves: Colors > Adjust > Curves
In the dialog box, I chose to work with each color individually and dragged points to reshape the curve for each.

I used the Proof button
so I could preview my effects in the larger image.
My image at this stage in the game:
The next tool I used was Colors > Adjust > Gamma Correction.
I set red to .88, green to .74, and left blue at 1.
The last items I used had to due with hues and saturation.
First I tried to make some sense out of the hue map: Colors > Adjust > Hue Map
I adjusted just one item on the far right:
Originally, this
column was set to 324 at both top and bottom.
Then I tried Colors > Adjust > Hue/Saturation/Lightness.
I chose to edit just the Reds and the Cyans.

I dragged the white dot around the inside of the color wheel after decreasing the range on one or both sides of the slider.
I also changed the saturation using the slider on the left. I had no idea what I was really doing but I used the Proof tool to keep an eye on the changes I was making and stopped when I was satisfied with the result.
