Updates on the
Kids Against Drugs Drag Racing Team
Above is a picture of the car in it's final stages of completion.  Thanks to some lovely neighborhood kids the previous 356 cui. motor was destroyed due to some gasoline put in the oil pan.  For those that aren't mechanically inclined this does a tremendous amount of damage to the main bearings of the crank and can completely screw your motor if you don't detect it early.  Unfortunately for me this was the case.  So a $20,000 motor went straight down the drain.  The car now has a fiberglass hood w/scoop, fiber glass doors, and lexan all the way around which makes the car very light weight.  To replace the motor we swapped out to a mild 406 sbc which places the car in the mid 9.60s in the 1/4 and 6.10's in the 1/8 mile.  The rearend was upgrade to accomodate 32x14" slicks and 35 spline axles.  Also we placed smaller wheels on the front of the car to allow for the "skinny tires" and overall gave the car a face lift.  It was repainted, and has a funny car cage inside now so if I decide to roll the car I'll still be alive, lol.  But most importantly about the car is 2 things.  1. there's absolutely not nitrous on it what so ever and 2. I can outrun some big blocks at the track that have a full tube chasis.  HAHAHAHA take that big block lovers.  We've only had two chances to take it to the track since completion, the first time was to test it , break it in and then let it loose to see what she'd do and we were quite pleased.  Towards the end of the testing we could accurately pinpoint what the car would run +/- .005 seconds.  The 2nd time to the track was for some sort of special event unknown to us in Milan, MI where the car was entered in TOP Eliminator (Bracket 1) and I (Kenneth Kidder, Driver) averaged a .502 reaction time and never once changed the dial-in on the car (9.63) it ran that number all day long until final elimination where it ran a 9.643.  Very pleasing results to come back to Kentucky with $5,000 in your pocket.  As more money come in and time allows the car will recieve a tube chasis, full fiberglass body and better internals on the 406 sbc to produce HP.  Our goal at KAD Drag Racing Team is to be racing Q8 and Q16 competively within 3 years.  Wish us luck and hope to see you at the track.
