Rahmiel is a warrior of the Kirin Tor and a close friend to King Halarion and Queen Amarah of the planet T'aeryn. The Kirin Tor are a powerful, mysterious sect of warriors that swear allegiance to no one and are bound to no nation on Earth or T'aeryn. They instead roam free between the Earth, Moon, and T'aeryn aiding those that are in need of their assistance. They freely give advice and help to the rulers of the nations and frequently recruit new warriors for their Order only after much serious training and education.

Rahmiel becomes the teacher and personal bodyguard of the young Prince of T'aeryn, Solorion, much to the disapproval of his colleagues. He teaches the Prince the ways of the Kirin Tor, training him to become a great warrior in order to protect his kingdom when he comes of age to be King of T'aeryn. The Prince often left the Great City of Tirisfal to explore the surrounding regions, often vexing his parents who wanted him to remain out of danger. Solorion even escaped under the watchful eye of his ever-present shadow, Rahmiel, to journey to Earth to seek much knowledge and adventure there.

Rahmiel endured the Prince's capers with a patient, wry humor. He often pointed out to the Prince that it would be wise to obey the King and Queen and not run loose where no one could find him or protect him from the dangerous villains that often plagued the Earth. T'aeryn was a peaceful and prosperous planet, and some of the nations on her sister planet were slowly growing jealous of her beauty and power. Rahmiel did not want the Prince to cause needless mischief and become ensnared in a political battle between the two planets.

One day, when Solorion was sixteen years old, disaster struck. The King and Queen of T'aeryn were called away to an urgent meeting by King Danath of Tarsonis. They were found murdered in the forest of Danath's kingdom near the Star Gate. Horrified by the news, the people of T'aeryn rose up in an ugly riot. The peace was barely kept by the presence of the Kirin Tor, who quelled the rebellion against the Earth like water over fire. The people still clamored for justice but the Order of the warriors told them to be patient, for the truth would soon emerge. The Prince had slipped quietly away during the chaos, and no one but his shadow, Rahmiel, knew that he had disappeared.

Rahmiel tracked the Prince to Earth, correctly assuming that the Prince was out for vengeance against his parent's assassins. The warrior headed for Tarsonis, where he was sure Solorion would end up. He surprised the Prince in the Tangaloor forest, a wild dangerous place were magiks roamed free to trip up the unwary traveler. Rahmiel demanded that the Prince abandon this foolish quest and return to T'aeryn with him to calm the people. Solorion refused to leave Earth until he had sought out the guilty people responsible. They railed at each other for over an hour, nearly coming to blows, when Rahmiel suddenly agreed to travel to Tarsonis with him on the condition that if, after a week, they hadn't brought the murderers to bay, Solorion would willingly come back to T'aeryn to take up his duties and be crowned the new King.

They uncovered a conspiracy when they arrived at Tarsonis; a deeply brilliant, twisted scheme to take control of T'aeryn. The assassins had slain the King and Queen near a band of brigands who were then set up to take the fall for the rulers' deaths. Terailion, the only one to survive the assault, was taken to the city and charged with regicide and high treason, his execution was to take place in three days. King Danath was under investigation for numerous messages, maps, and plans detailing the plot to assassinate the King and Queen that had suddenly appeared in his advisor's and guard's rooms as well as planted on the bodies of the slain theives. The dark rider that had brought Terailion to the palace dungeon had vanished without a trace.

Solorion believed the King's and Terailion's word, sparing Terailion from the executioner's blade. Rahmiel persuaded the Prince to return home and investigate the origin of the message that had caused the King and Queen to leave the palace. Rahmiel suspected that a warrior of the Kirin Tor had woven this web of deceit and lies. For years the cunning man, Nielas Belair, had crafted plans of subtle dissent against the King and Queen, and he longed to create a new sect of warriors beholden only to him.

Rahmiel, Solorion, and Terailion; who followed the prince now that he owed him his life, all travelled to the Star Gate near Tarsonis. They were ambushed by riders cloaked in black who were lying in wait for them and who attacked them with the fury of wolves. Rahmiel grimly saw from their battle-moves that they were Kirin Tor warriors, of Nielas' treacherous select group he had won to his side.

Out of the corner of his eye, Rahmiel saw the archer too late, the deadly arrow was already airborne and streaking to Solorion. Terailion took the arrow in his chest, falling to the ground in front of the Prince. Rahmiel and Solorion fought for their lives around their fallen friend but they were quickly becoming overwhelmed by the black warriors.

His strength and that of the Prince's was waning, Rahmiel wished for a miracle and he was answered. Out of the forest, fresh from the Star Gate, burst the forms of over two dozen loyal Kirin Tor warriors as well as palace guards. They quickly surrounded the evil minions, letting none escape, and placed them under arrest. The wounded Terailion was carefully picked up, and all headed swiftly back to the palace. The Kirin Tor told them that they had been warned by Jareil Halcyon, a young soldier Solorion's age, that he had overheard Nielas plotting to kill the Prince and his company this very night as they tried to leave for T'aeryn.

Anger burned in Rahmiel's heart as the city of Tirisfal grew closer, anger for his friends' betrayer who he would seek out once he had set foot in the palace. Solorion had similar thoughts, and after the Prince had seen his friend safely to the doctors of the palace, he rushed to draw his sword and track down Nielas. Rahmiel stopped him at the doorway, refusing to let him pass, and locked Solorion in the room. Rahmiel felt it best to deal with Nielas himself who would surely overcome the Prince's swordskills.

Rahmiel confronted the warrior in the empty throne room. Their skill was great, as well as their strength and prowess, but so evenly matched that the outcome of the battle would depend on who would last the longest. Unfortunately Rahmiel, already worn from the fight in the forest, quickly showed signs of fatigue. Deep in combat were the two warriors locked, and so intense was their concentration that Rahmiel didn't even notice the Prince appear in the shadows of the throne room, sword in hand.

Solorion rushed at Nielas, yelling, creating a distraction so his teacher could gain an advantage. Rahmiel expertly knocked the sword from Nielas hand, forcing him to the floor. Nielas was now before the mercy of Solorion. The Prince, showing a wisdom far beyond his years, chose life for the murderous Nielas, something that Rahmiel felt the evil man did not deserve.

Rahmiel turned to fetch the guards to throw the beaten man in the dungeon when he saw Solorion's eyes widen in shock and he felt a sudden searing pain. Quick as lightning, Nielas had drawn a hidden knife from his boot and stabbed Rahmiel in the back. Before Nielas could draw away, Rahmiel swung his sword, impaling the traitor's heart on the icy metal blade. Solorion's bodyguard sunk to the floor, his life quickly ebbing away with every heartbeat. Rahmiel breathed his last on the cold floor of the palace throne room, his eyes on those of the Prince who looked suddenly very much like his parents and very very sad.

Rahmiel was highly honored for the service he did for the royal family. Solorion buried him in the palace gardens, under the Great Tree his teacher often meditated by. At Solorion's coronation, he built a monument to Rahmiel and his mother and father, that however dark disaster may threaten, hope and light reign forever.
