Malus once was one of the Parhelia of the sun ruled by the elegant Queen Myrrh. His silvery beauty rivaled that of their benevolent Queen. However, Malus was obsessed with shadows, the absence of light - and this twisted fascination led to his downfall. News of this aberrant Parhelia reached the Dark Lord who started to craft a plan of vengeance and conquest. Malus fell prey to the enticing whispers of the Evil Lord to steal the Sun's glory and, bit by bit, turned to his side.

The Dark Dragon wanted Malus to steal the Sun's Blade - the ultimate power of life for the planets Earth and T'aeryn, from it's Guardian, Helios. Malus' reward would be that the Sun would destroyed, plunging the entire galaxy into everlasting darkness, and he would become the Dark Lord's equal. Imbrium, the Guardian of the Star of the Parhelia, sensed Malus' turn to evil and the impending doom of the Sun and warned Helios. Queen Myrrh also sensed her follower's departure from the Light and alerted the Parhelia for his return.

On that fateful night, Helios and Imbrium set a trap for anyone daring to steal the Sun's power. Helios came upon Malus with the decoy and his anger scorched the sky. Malus was cast out of the heavens, never to return to the Sun. His wings were shorn and his body burnt black. The Dark Lord, furious for having his plan thwarted, also exacted his vengeance upon Malus. Malus' left eye was torn from his socket - turned into a talisman of terrible power to be wielded only by his Chosen.

Malus is now forced to serve the Dark Lord, his eye replaced with a burning orb of fire. He was only given power over darkness and is the leader of the Shadow Wolves, fearsome creatures of inky darkness, able to travel through shadows and tear through flesh like a hot wind. Malus' body had to adapt to life on Earth, his legs and body grew thicker with muscles to withstand the pressures of gravity.

When the Dark Lord's Chosen appeared, Malus' Eye was given to him as a symbol of the power of darkness and a bond of evil to the Dark Dragon. The Chosen One was given power over the Army of the Damned and Malus and his Pack. Malus grew resentful toward his new master who now carried his Eye, and a burning hatred smoldered silently within him of the alliance that existed between the Chosen and the Dark Lord.

Malus seeks to regain the Dark Lord's favor and obeys the Chosen only to reclaim his Eye. It is not until many, many years have passed after the Great Fall of T'aeryn that he finally turns on his master, Jareil Halcyon.
