Jareil was born and raised on Earth's sister planet T'aeryn. Ambitious and brilliant, he surpassed all in his age group, becoming independent at the youngest possible age. Jareil joined the ranks of the soldiers training to be Kirin Tor at the age of fourteen. His father was a mercenary, rarely at home to take care of his family. Their mother passed away, leaving Jareil to look after his young brother, Kheiran, who was two years old at the time. Their father took the loss of his beautiful wife hard, escaping his sorrow in drink, and often taking out his anger on Jareil and Kheiran. Jareil loved his brother deeply, standing up to his father for him and protecting him from the bitter assaults.

Jareil's father was renown on T'aeryn for his prowess in battle and great deeds done for the Kirin Tor. He was frequently summoned to the palace for his advice and strategies, and often brought Jareil with him. Jareil would play mock battles with the young prince Solorion, and a tentative friendship grew between them. Jareil was heavily influenced by Nielas Belair in his young days, a shady warrior who dealt mainly with the inner workings of the Kirin Tor. Nielas was impressed with the clever and talented soldier and took Jareil under his wing. He confided in young Jareil that he felt the King and Queen of T'aeryn had too much power and that the people of T'aeryn should have the ability to govern themselves.

However, there was much Nielas left unsaid to Jareil for fear of him uncovering the conspiracy against the King and Queen and charging him with high treason. As such, Jareil was never fully trusted by his mentor and a rift grew between them. Nielas had Jareil sent to the palace as a guard on the night King Halarion and Queen Amarah were assassinated to not draw suspicion towards his young protégé and therefore to himself. Jareil had some inkling of his mentor's plan and overheard Nielas plotting to kill the Crown Prince as well. His friendship with prince Solorion caused him to betray Nielas and warn the loyal warriors of the Kirin Tor. After Nielas was killed, Jareil was honored by Solorion at his coronation, thus gaining the impressive status of Kirin Tor at the age of sixteen.

For two years, Jareil served the new King and the Kirin Tor faithfully, but on his eighteenth year slowly started to turn from them. His descent into darkness started with the arrival of the Star Guardian Imbrium. Her radiant beauty eclipsed everyone around her, graceful in form, and gentle in nature. Jareil was instantly taken with the Lady of the Stars, who possessed as keen a mind as he and, the rumors whispered, a mysterious power. He tried vainly to catch the ethereal young woman's attention, but the Lady only had a heart for Solorion.

Jareil watched their love blossom from the shadows, growing colder with jealousy at each passing day. He started to resent his friend, Solorion, and let a small seed of hate flourish and grow deep within his soul. On the eve Imbrium and Solorion were to celebrate their marriage and the crowning of a new Queen of T'aeryn, Jareil fled the palace in a dark rage. He ended up on the edge of the Mirror Sea, furiously sparring at the air with his sword in an attempt to vent his anger. A dark figure approached him when he collapsed from exhaustion on the sand; a man cloaked and hooded all in black.

The man's age was indiscriminant and his face was well hidden within the deep shadowy folds of the cloak. His voice, rasped, deep, and powerful, chilled Jareil to the bone. Strangely, the man knew everything about him, his past, his dreams, and darkest desires. The man instructed Jareil to call him "Anlume", an ancient name meaning darkness. He whispered of the power of the Stars and a prophecy foretelling of a one who would gain the power of the Earth. The man hinted at ways for Jareil to protect his family and gain the Lady Imbrium's love, by allowing Anlume to teach him. Jareil, intrigued by the man's offer, agreed to meet him every night.

So every night he met with the strange dark man, learning dark arts and powers of necromancy. Jareil's mother fell ill during his eighteenth year, wasting away with a strange fever while his father was away on a mission to Earth. She died after two weeks, pale and wan, and leaving Jareil and two-year old Kheiran to fend for themselves. This is also became the time of strife between Jareil and his father.

One year later, the Crown Princess was born, causing the rift between Solorion and Jareil to grow even further apart. Solorion noticed Jareil's long absences from the palace, and watched, concerned, as his normally warm and light-hearted friend grew into a cold and hard man. Terailion, a warrior of the Kirin Tor and the King's closest friend, was unnerved by Jareil's strange evasive behavior toward the King and Queen. He frequently followed him throughout the palace and confronted him one night. Jareil was openly hostile toward Terailion, and cursed the fellowship of the Kirin Tor. The encounter ended badly with Jareil striking Terailion and bloodying his face.

Jareil continued to learn forbidden arts from his dark teacher. Anlume started to craft plans of subterfuge - sowing seeds of rebellion within Jareil's mind. The young warrior's mind grew dark with discontent, and the only ray of light to pierce this deep fog was Kheiran, who he still deeply loved and would protect with his life. Jareil began conspiring against the kingdom of T'aeryn, determined to place himself in a position of power. He left the order of the Kirin Tor and persuaded Solorion to make him the General of Tirisfal's army.

King Solorion was skeptical at the need for an army for they were a peaceful planet and not at war. Jareil argued with him that the Kirin Tor would never bind themselves to a certain place or swear loyalty to any particular kingdom, that they roamed where they liked, helping the nations of Earth and T'aeryn equally. Jareil told the King it would be better to protect his kingdom and family this way, and because Jareil had left the Kirin Tor, they had no ties or influence over him. Solorion agreed reluctantly, granting him the command of a small army that would patrol the city of Tirisfal to keep the peace.

Delighted with Jareil's small victory, Anlume gave his acolyte a talisman: an alluring, ruby-like stone that swirled and glittered eerily. It gave off a menacing red glow and hypnotized Jareil with the pull of it's power. The dark man placed the talisman around Jareil's neck where it hung next to his heart, then, laughing, told him that he was worthy to be chosen by him. Jareil, not understanding his words but feeling the cold power of the amulet curling dark fingers around his soul, hurried home-ward. A dark shadow followed him.

Jareil returned to find his father in a drunken temper and threatening his brother Kheiran in the forest near the house. Overcome with blind rage, Jareil dragged his father away from Kheiran with a strength he never knew he possessed. The talisman burned against his skin, filling him with a dark power. His father was brutally beaten, his blood staining the grass and Jareil's clothes. Black hatred had transformed Jareil, turning him into a vessel of evil. His father died in the darkness of the forest at the hands of his eldest son.

Anlume appeared to him suddenly, stepping forth from the deepest shadows of the forest. He touched Jareil's forehead, speaking in his mind. Anlume cast off his cloak, becoming a dark smokey figure of a dragon with seven heads which no light could pierce. Seven pairs of red eyes glittered savagely in the night sky above him. All lies and disguises were cast off, the Dark Lord Natalis had made his true form known. His evil god promised him power above all things and any desire he wished if he could get him the power of the Stars. He told Jareil that he was his Chosen One, the Bringer of Darkness. Command over the Army of the Damned was given to him as well as power over the dark Parhelia Malus and his Shadow Wolves. Jareil knelt before him and swore his allegiance to the Lord of Darkness.

Jareil then buried his father's body in the forest, telling everyone that his father had traveled to Earth. He spent three years under the instruction of the Dark Dragon and during that time started to secretly build up the Army of Darkness on Earth. He fed his army on T'aeryn lies about the monarchy and stirred up rebellion and discontent among the ranks.

The Dark Lord wanted a new kingdom, a planet of darkness, and he chose T'aeryn as his first target. Jareil would lead his Army to T'aeryn and utterly annihilate all that lived there. His Chosen One was given orders to take the power of the Stars from Imbrium and kill the royal family if she did not comply. The Dark Lord waited until the solar eclipse, a rare occurrence of the Earth blocking the Sun that would plunge T'aeryn into darkness. He knew that the Sun's Guardian, Helios, would be powerless then to help the planet, and his Army would completely take control of T'aeryn before the Guardian could retaliate.

The day before the eclipse was to occur, Jareil sent Kheiran away on a deserted island to be safe from the invading Army of the Damned. One of Malus' most trusted Shadow Wolves would take him to the island on the Mirror Sea to protect and watch over him. When the last rays of light had faded from the burning orb of the Sun to ring the Earth in fire, Jareil attacked T'aeryn.

Coming from the Earth's dark side, as to not be seen and therefore stopped by Helios, he swept across the stars in a great and terrible warhost of death. Taking the planet completely by surprise in an ambush, he spread the Army of Darkness in a tidal wave that quickly covered T'aeryn in a pitch-black shadow. The evil undead warriors under his command slaughtered all they came across, be it man, woman, child or animal. T'aeryn's peaceful people were destroyed, those rare few who had escaped through Star Gateways during the first few minutes of battle had survived the massive annihilation to tell the tale.

Finished with the smaller cities and countrysides, the black Army sped across the Mirror Sea to the Great City of Tirisfal, the last stronghold amid a storm of chaos. Jareil engulfed the city with his Army of the Damned, the dark warriors overwhelmed all that opposed them, and swiftly the once beautiful and mighty city became silent with the throes of death. Jareil, now headed for the palace itself, saw the King of T'aeryn lead a small army of palace guards to fight against the onslaught of the horde. The small uprising in front of the palace was quickly crushed and the King was cornered.

Closing in on the King, Jareil saw that the young Princess had emerged from the palace gardens and Solorion was standing in front of her and the way to the palace doors. Jareil needed the Princess as a hostage to bargain with the Queen and he planned to take her by force. Jareil's hatred for King Solorion burned darker than ever and he clashed swords with him in front of the palace steps, determined to kill him. However, the King's superior swordskill had Jareil matched stroke for stroke. The concern for his daughter's life had lent him a new strength and fury, and he fought like an animal possessed.

Jareil knew that he would not win by strength alone, so cunning was Solorion's every move, so he summoned the dark powers of Malus' Eye to overcome the King, dealing him a killing blow through the heart. Solorion had strength enough to turn to his daughter, whispering words unintelligible to Jareil, before he collapsed on the cold steps and breathed his last.

Jareil easily took the Princess captive, who was so shocked by her father's death that she did not run. Storming the palace with his dark warriors, he found that the Queen was already waiting for him in the entrance hall. Jareil put his blade to the child's throat and demanded that Queen Imbrium give him the secret of her power. The radiant Queen dimmed with sadness and agreed only if she could have her daughter back. Jareil reluctantly released the Princess who flew to her mother's arms. All at once, the Queen and her daughter vanished within a burst of white light.

Overcome with a black, violent rage at being tricked, Jareil and his Army tore through the palace in a furious flood, maliciously killing all they came across. Jareil found no trace of the Princess, but was informed by a breathless Malus that he and his pack had just chased a cloaked rider on a Chrys'luma unicorn to the Star Gate on the outskirts of the palace grounds. Jareil finally spotted the Queen climbing to the top of the crystal spire of the palace. Relentless, he pursued her.

As he was running up the stairs a cold wind surrounded him, numbing him to the bone. The Dark Lord spoke to him quickly, telling him that the Silver Queen was about to release her Star upon the Army of the Damned. With a wrenching tear, the space around Jareil fell into a deep, fathomless void, and he was pulled into it along with Malus. In the clutches of the Dark Lord from space, he watched the Queen Imbrium raise her scepter and ignite the Star within, releasing the Star's power with it's explosive death. The furious white fire engulfed the entire planet, instantly consuming the Army of the Damned and tearing the planet apart. The rest of the Shadow Wolves and the Dark Army were left to perish with T'aeryn. Jareil realized with horror that he was too late to save his brother.

The Dark Lord brought him and Malus safely back to Earth, where they would start rebuilding their Army. Jareil, broken with despair over the loss of Kheiran, became even colder and allowed the dark talisman to possess him more deeply. The Dark Dragon froze Jareil's body and soul on that desolate night, never to grow old and die but remain unchanging in eternal youth. The Dark Lord presented to him a terrible sword crafted by the most skilled of the Felris - dark demonic creatures that dwelt deep below the Earth and served the Dragon as necromancers and overseers of his Dark Army. It's blade was so poisonous that only a bare scratch would kill within three days and it was filled with the Evil Lord's own dark powers. The weapon, named "Anor-saf" the Dark Destroyer, together with Jareil, quickly became the terror of any living creature on Earth.

Jareil let his hatred consume him in the years to come and, with the Dark Lord's help, became a dark and powerful force to reckoned with. The labyrinth beneath the Earth grew under Jareil 's supervision, sending vapors of darkness radiating outward like a ripple in a pond. The creatures of the Dark Dragon roamed free, plunging the Earth into a time of darkness. Jareil swore vengeance for his brother, that he would hunt down the last inhabitants of T'aeryn and kill them, that he would conquer the Earth and make all of the Star Guardians in the universe pay for Kheiran's blood.
