In Chapter One the reader saw the prim and proper side of the old rich.  Chapter Two reveals what is underneath this side of the rich.

1.  There are diametrically opposing images ending Chapter One and beginning Chapter Two.  Describe what Nick sees at the end of Chapter One when he comes home from the Buchanans'.

 

2.  What image is described at the beginning of Chapter Two?  How does the narrator describe it in paragraph three?

 

3.  There is a billboard that "looks" over this scene.  In a symbolic way, who could these eyes symbolize looking over this scene?
