Welcome back.

So that you can brace yourself for the bad news and excuses that this entry will involve, I'm going to copy the funny e-mail my father sent me.

In Japan, they have replaced the impersonal and unhelpful Microsoft error messages with their own Japanese Haiku poetry, each with only 17 syllables: five in the first line, seven in the second, five in the third.

------------------------
Your file was so big.
It might be very useful.
But now it is gone.
------------------------
The website you seek
Cannot be located, but
Countless more exist.
------------------------
Chaos reigns within.
Reflect, repent and reboot.
Order shall return.
------------------------
Aborted effort.
Close all that you have worked on.
You ask far too much.
------------------------
Windows NT crashed.
I am the Blue Screen of Death.
No one hears your screams.
------------------------
Yesterday it worked.
Today it is not working.
Windows is like that.
------------------------
Stay the patient course.
Of little worth is your ire.
The network is down.
------------------------
A crash reduces
Your expensive computer
To a simple stone.
------------------------
Three things are certain:
Death, taxes and lost data.
Guess which has occurred.
------------------------
You step in the stream,
But the water has moved on.
This page is not here.
------------------------
Out of memory.
We wish to hold the whole sky,
But we never will.
------------------------
Having been erased,
The document you're seeking
Must now be retyped.
------------------------
I ate your Web page.
Forgive me; it was tasty
And tart on my tongue

So I haven't posted in a long-ass time. There's a reason for that; my Lolo (grandfather) died right before Christmas. We got the call on the 22nd, which pretty much cancelled Christmas for my folks. I couldn't fly out to San Francisco for the funeral because 1) I didn't have any money and 2) I wasn't really welcome.

That's too much background to get into right now. Suffice to say that my Lolo has been dying for years, and his death was only a surprise in the area of timing. For the past few years he was also incredibly senile, and -ahem- exposed himself to my aunt Julia, his eldest daughter. He then tried to hit on my cousin Pia, Julia's daughter. I didn't really have a relationship with him (when I say years, I mean he was sickly when I was nine) aside from hugging him when we visited.

I must admit that a lot of my time was wasted playingThe Sims. My parents got it for me for Christmas, along with a crock pot and a very large gift basket of my favorite scent from Bath & Body Works. Katie got me the Livin' Large expansion pack, and I have created abominations in my little world, thanks to downloading skins for the grim reaper (Yahoo) and a mummy (Evilyum). They have a child, you know, named Ghoul. It's just so deliciously wrong to watch Yahoo and Evilyum make out. I'll post pictures when I get around to editing them.

There's also been a world of stress around here – Aaron lost his job around mid-January. One of his clients owed him over $4,000 for papers, and they were refusing to pay their bill. Instead of stepping in and making them pay, the newspaper simply fired him, and billed Aaron for the $4,000. Assholes.

Aaron's a courier now, with a second job at Papa John's. He doesn't do much besides work and sleep, but he managed to scrape together the money for rent. Our cable's getting cut off, though.....I'm having a hard time really caring about that, but Dirk's all kinds of upset.

Enough for now. More later.
