You guys missed another e-mail entry. I was really gratified by the sheer number of people that joined the update list after Monday’s entry. I’m not going to make the e-mail entries a habit, however – I don’t like e-mail journals. It’s just going to be a once in a while sort of thing.
I got the index page for May up last night, in a burst of energy. Aqualung is the song I have on repeat play when I’m online at home these days. Which happens about once a week, if that. I was going to use the Police song, “Don’t Stand So Close To Me,” but only the chorus was relevant. The rest of the lyrics were schlock about a Lolita-type situation. They even referenced Nabokov (sp?). I guess this was cutting edge in the eighties, before America got burned-out on that type of situation.
I found an apartment complex in my area that I’m really interested in. They allow cats, have a washer/dryer in each apartment, and a free shuttle bus to D.C. And it’s really affordable – a two-bedroom apartment (1.5 - 2 bathrooms) is only $700. Of course, I might be saying that because I could damn well afford that amount on my own, even without Dirk’s money coming in. With Dirk, I can definitely afford it.
Speaking of affording, I loaned Letisha $100 to make this month’s rent. She had to use LWOP (Leave Without Pay) when she was in that accident, and only got a little over a hundred dollars in her last paycheck. She didn’t have nearly enough for the rent, and pawned some of her stuff. I offered to loan her the money when she told me that she just didn’t know how she was going to get that last hundred dollars.
See, I think (and both Doshu and Dirk agree with me on this) that our supervisor should have done more to help Letisha. She could have asked people to donate leave, or she could have taken up a collection for an “emergency relief” fund. Anything. Instead, she did nothing. Even in Giant, if an employee has an accident of some sort, the manager will take up a collection to help that employee out. Not here, though.
Letisha was so grateful, she couldn’t believe I’d loan her the money. She went ahead and wrote me a check for the amount, telling me to deposit it on our next pay day. Money is utterly worthless if you can’t use it to help out a friend.....I still haven’t forgotten the fact that I owe someone else money (but she’s being nice and lenient with a November due date).
I need to talk to Dirk about his plans to purchase that car. I’m assuming he plans to wait until the next paychecks come out, which makes sense. It never hurts to have a bit of extra cash when making a major purchase.
Other things I need:
New Shoes
Summer Clothes
Those Neat Contact Lenses
Get My Car Put In My Name
Kill AlexSee, I don’t need much.
I wrote an awful lot of people back today and yesterday. I’m not saying I wrote everyone, so don’t get your panties in a bunch if you weren’t one of them.
