I made Dirk a present while I was at work yesterday. I filched some of the free candy from my supervisor’s desk (two Hershey’s Miniatures, three “tropical flavor” Starbursts, and a mint), bought a Snicker’s, and added a lemon poppy seed cupcake. I put all of this into a box, found some pink paper (used for some form or other), and wrapped it. Then I took a neon pink highlighter and drew hearts al over it. I wrote “A.S. loves Dirk!!” in big pink letters on the top.
I admit I may have gone a bit too far into the realm of cute.
In fact, one of my coworkers saw it sitting on my desk, and gave me that indulgent smile they all give me when I do something odd. The “I Would Never Do Something Like That, But It’s Okay For You Because You’re Only A Kid And Besides You Play Bass In A Band, So You’re One Of Those People.” smile.
Dirk liked it, a lot. Dirk got me a nifty new lighter and this new drink at 7-11. It’s creamy, and it’s strawberry flavored. It’s very, very good. I wouldn’t let Dirk drink any of it, it was so good.
I took a nap with my head pillowed in Dirk’s lap. I was tired. More than I knew. I woke up at one point and and announced that it was time to bring Dirk to work, only to be quieted and told to go back to sleep. When I finally got up, it was 10:25, and we had to run to the bank before bringing Dirk to work. We made it in time, though. Aaron was in Dirk’s store when we pulled up. You could see the Crayola-green of his hair all the way across the parking lot. I hope nothing was wrong.
I could have gone online, to see if C– was on and willing to talk, but I wanted to give the tape of this Saturday’s practice a listen. On my own. Aaron had confiscated the first copy and written all over it, bastard.
A few things jumped out at me: 1) we are getting very good, 2) we need to practice more often, to get a tighter sound, 3) my voice sounds like a wounded dog. I don’t know why they have me sing all the ballad-esque parts. Oh, and I forgot number 4) Aaron needs serious help. He seems to have the loosest grasp of rhythm.
I found at least three songs that are worth putting on a tape to send to people, if they’re still interested. A lot of them have serious flaws, due to the quality of recording equipment. We need a four-track, or something. Not immediately, mind. If anything, we could get Richard to record us.
Still budgeting our money. I’m trying to talk Dirk into letting me cook for him so we don’t have to go out and eat anymore. I’ve calculated that we spend an astonishing amount of money going out these days. The problem is the other people who live in his house – they make guerilla raids on anything in the fridge. Oh, and the people in my house, who would strenuously object to the idea of me cooking for anyone else. Especially if they found out why I was trying to save money.
I need to update my link and my bio page. It isn’t going to happen today, though. I’m so far behind.
