Diary 229

12-21-98

So here we are with another entry. I know it's a bit overdue.

Dirk was off Thursday, so he came over to visit. We walked over to the Roma restaurant, this hole-in-the wall Italian place. I was suprised to see our "friend" Chris there. Not Katie's Chris. This guy is known by the nickname of "Flamer" Chris. Which is a good description. This is one of the most aggressively gay guys I've ever known. I really like him, but I sometimes think he tries too hard.

Anyway, it appears that Flamer works at the Roma. He was going to a prestigious music college, then caught Tuberculosis. Now he's on medication and failing at community college. He's only been TB free for about six months. He's gained a hell of a lot of weight, and his hairline is receding pretty damn fast.

On Friday morning, I realized that I had left my purse back at the office. So, I had to drive into DC, park in a permit-only lot in front of the Capitol, and sprint to my building. Meanwhile, we were listening to the house debate the Articles of Impeachment. I don't know why I ever thought that C-Span is boring. When something important is happening, these Representatives dig out their thesauruses (sp?), and make really great speeches. Some of them were outright screaming.

Friday night, Katie disappeared. I wasn't hugely surprised, because I knew Chris was due to return, but Dirk was disappointed. Poor Dirk.

So, Dirk and I went to Pentagon City Mall to do some shopping...I honestly don't remember what happened after that. I'm drawing a blank. So, I'll assume we had kinky sex.

But I suspect we smoked while listening to the impeachment proceedings.

Oh, also, Aaron learned a very important lesson: Don't Fuck With Agent Skatter. He mock-punched me in the stomach, and I made it clear that I didn't want him touching me. So, what does he do? He starts poking my shoulder....and got my elbow slammed into his stomach. Hard. Anyone who knows me knows I'm wired pretty tight when it comes to physical contact. If I say I don't want you touching me, I damn well mean it. Thank my mother for that.

Practice was fantastic. Aaron came along, and didn't get in the way this time. DoShu made it fairly early, so he had time to run through a lot of songs with him, and Dirk started teaching him the bass part for "Pale Blue Eyes," the one song I sing on. It was great. I sounded better than usual, and Dirk was playing the guitar I bought him. (I know, I meant to keep it a secret until Christmas, but...I'll explain later)

Saturday night, I fell asleep while Dirk was sleeping, and got Dirk into trouble at work. I feel awful about that. I didn't mean for him to be late. Perhaps I need an alarm clock in my car.

Sunday was spent shopping. In the evening, we went to Don Pablo's. We also drove around to look at Christmas lights. Dirk's mother, for reasons known only to her, gave me a Christmas present. I'm betting it's a sweater or something. Still, the thought was nice.

Today was spent shopping, for Katie's Xmas present. Dirk found one, I didn't.

Dull, dull, dull.

You know, Crabtree and Evelyn doesn't carry Sandalwood lotion. Fuckers. They have three, count 'em, three types of Sandalwood scented shaving cream, but no lotion.

About the guitar...see, I didn't really have time to hide it before Dirk came over for the day. I was running late as it is. So, I just put the (obviously guitar-shaped) box off to one side of my room and draped this tye-dye banner over it. I think the banner covered maybe a foot of the four-foot box. And it was standing on it's end.

Dirk came over and...he didn't notice. I mean it was sitting out there in the open and the boy's too unobservant to notice! Amazing. So, I started teasing him about the fact that I'd already bought his Xmas present, and kidding him about what it could possibly be. (A rock? Socks?) Then I challenged him to find it. He couldn't find it, and became so discouraged that he decided that I hadn't bought him a present after all. So, I pulled off the covering and showed him his present. He was in ecstasies.

I have a real problem with keeping secrets, if they're good ones.

Dirk got me a pearloid pick gaurd for my bass...it's georgeous. He installed it today.

Aaaaand...the big news. Dirk may be asking me to marry him in the near future. He's making noises about marriage. I'm not holding my breath, but I'd be so happy if we were engaged. It just feels right.

Okay, it's late, and I stayed up too long last night talking to Karen, Trish, and Pez (a little). Goodnight, and always remember I love all of you. Especially those of you who hate me.
