Promenade
A gorgeous gown hangs in the shop
But on her body gown would pop
She pictured sequins everywhere
Inside her shoes and in her hair
‘Her hair’, she had not thought of that
While thinking only of her fat
Before the mirror where she stands
She held her comb against her strands
"To cut or not to cut" she thinks
"Or should my gown receive the winks?"
But as she puts away her comb
Recalls the dress she left at home
Upon her bed her dress did lay
And waited, waited so it say
To clothe her body round and tall
And court her at the Senior Ball
The gorgeous gown with many frills
Would nightly cause her body thrills
Its puzzlement to entertain
Allow in her old age sustain
She does expect this from a gown
And tease she did her brain a clown
It hung there on its rusty hook
And naked in its embrace took
The dress, it uninvited wait
And hardly foresaw starry hate
"Amazing dress" dress thought of dress
And danced a dance presumptuous
A salesgirl - whisper stack and fold
"Your nudity offends the cold"
With arms wrapped tightly shields her form
Escaped into her mind’s great storm
A face of numb the gown put on
The dress was much the simpleton
She walked inside the ballroom door
And naked girl she was no more
So gown and dress did do their part
To win this young unbalanced heart.
With gown and dress on either side
She wore her velvet frock with pride.
