Ode to my Caligula Poster

Who but I would find comfort
in the eyes of a Roman Emperor?
Eyes tempered by power,
Eyes tempered by misunderstanding,
A stone-faced observer of my isolation.
“Let them hate me as long as they fear me”

A White face on a blue background
that appears to dance through the darkness
of my unlit bedroom.
Eyes, tempered by sadism,
that brand themselves into my memory.
“you’ll lose this beautiful head whenever I say”

Inaudible whispering
coming from your direction
haunts me during rest
as candlelight slowly fades from my dresser

A man that is shunned by many,
hangs on my wall,
watches me stare at his forebidding face,
winks at me while I sleep.
