The Town of Barra de Navidad!

Here's a pedestrian-only street in Barra for shopping and restaurants. There are a few streets closed off to traffic that are lined with shops, restaurants, and nightclubs. Barra is a very happening place for such a small town.

A view of the Pacific from the ocean-facing street in Barra. There are many of these little alleyways with benches for beach access and relaxing. At night, this particular alleyway fills with hippies from all over Central and South America who make jewelry and trinkers. Many of the pieces that they sell are one-of-a-kind and very beautiful.

Here's a picture of the inside of the Catholic church in Barra. If you look closely, you will see that the arms of Christ on the cross are hanging down at his sides. The story is that in the huge hurricane that hit this part of the coast in the early 1980s, Jesus held the winds at bay.

Barra was not hit as severely as was expected and was not damaged as much as several other waterfront locations. Jesus pushed the winds away from Barra and after the hurricane, his arms rested at his sides from the effort.

The people left the statue the way it is as a reminder of the miracle.

This is Chacho. He was my best friend while I was in Barra. I saw him my first night as we were on our way to eat dinner. I visited him and fed him everyday after that. He lives in this cage at the Sun Hotel. He seems sad. I love him and miss him. He would grab me with his arms, legs, and tail sometimes. I wish he could come and live with me.

Here's a picture of the front of my hotel, the Posada Pacifico. It's just a few minutes walk from the center of the town and very reasonable. The staff is very congenial and kind. However, I would not recommend room 37 because the agua caliente is not caliente. Plus there's an evil gallo who lives in the yard of a home just adjacent to that part of the hotel. That rooster is schizo and never shuts up!

This is a gecko living outside of my hotel room. They are all over the place in Mexico and are welcome guests. Geckos eat insects and are cute. I wanted to catch one and play with it but they stay pretty high up.

My only concern about geckos is, what about gecko poop? I'm not sure I like the idea of digested insect poop falling down from the ceiling.

This is my hotel room at the Posada Pacifico with all my junk all over the place. It was comfortable if you don't count the cold water and evil gallo.
