This monument is dedicated to the Unknown Aboriginal Citizen. The one who was banished from Circular Quay by the foreigners. He who lost his wife and children to abuse, disease and degradation and in his retreat, sought refuge in this very place where we stand, in Centennial Park.
Here he suffered his last days, agonising over his tragic loss, never coming to comprehend the reason why he was so callously persecuted and driven off his ancestral land, the place where his spirits live.
Today, we all pay homage to his spirit and his memory before the eyes of the entire world, so that all may acknowledge his plight and his values.
He is the one who lived for equality and justice, who was not obsessed by storing riches but lived like the lilies of the valley, who accepted the gift of nature in such harmony, he could have boasted having a higher quality of life in his day when compared to the European peasant.
May his spirit now find peace and with him each and every Aboriginal Citizen who met with injustice and persecution in his own country.
LEST WE FORGET
