THE WISE AND FOOLISH VIRGINS

The kingdom of heaven is likened to
Ten virgins awaiting their groom
Five were foolish, five were wise
None saw the awaiting doom
Five took plenty of oil
In case the groom was late
Five only filled their lamps
Not realizing their fate

At midnight the cry was made
The bridegroom’s here, go out
The virgins arose from their sleep
When they heard the shout
The foolish trimmed their lamps
And as they did they found
They didn’t have enough oil
So they turned around

Give us some of your oil
They said to the others there
The wise ones answered no
We’ll not have enough we fear
While they went to buy more
The bridegroom took his bride
They went into the marriage
The rest were shut outside

Then came the other five
Pleading, open up the door
He answered, I don’t know you
Where were you before
So they were shut outside
The wedding went ahead
All because they weren’t prepared
But were foolish instead

Let’s take a lesson from this
Jesus someday will come
We do not know the day or hour
He’ll come take His bride home
We too need to be ready
Have our lamps trimmed and bright
So always be prepared
For He may come tonight

(Matthew 25:1-13)
