THE DAY OF PENTECOST

The day of Pentecost had come
They were all in one accord
As they gathered together
And waited on the Lord
He had made a promise
That if they would wait
He’d fill them with His power
He’d be on time, not late

Suddenly they heard a sound
Like a rushing mighty wind
It filled the house completely
It fell on each of them
Then cloven tongues of fire
Sat upon each head
They were not afraid
They were all blessed instead

They were filled with the Spirit
In other tongues they spoke
As the Spirit gave them utterance
large barriers were broke
For Jews from every nation
Had gathered in the land
The people spoke in languages
Only they could understand

They marveled when they heard them
For they knew without a doubt
This was just plain Galileans
Who spoke their languages out
Some said they were drunk
Mocking what they had heard
Peter then assured them
This was according to God’s word

For Joel in the Bible
Said the Spirit would fall
On people from everywhere
He’d be outpoured on all
They’d prophecy, see visions
The old men they would dream
I’m sure many wondered
What could this possibly mean

The Spirit He is real today
He will do the same
He convicts the world of sin
When they call on Jesus’ name
He will come within them
Forever He will stay
For He hasn’t changed
He’s just the same today

(Acts 2:1-21)
