THE BETRAYER’S KISS

The Garden of Gethsemene
What an awful lonely place
A place where the Son of God
A terrible ordeal faced
A place where His disciples
Could not stay awake
Not even for an hour
Or for their Master’s sake

Jesus there kneeled down to pray
To His Father, the only One
Who could remove the cup from Him
But God’s will must be done
As He knelt there praying
Angels came from above
They appeared to strengthen Him
To show the Father’s love

Oh what agony He was in
As He prayed more earnestly
His sweat was as great drops of blood
From wounds you couldn’t see
His disciples were all fast asleep
So He let them sleep on
In Just a little while
From them He would be gone

Then Judas came and betrayed Him
With just a simple kiss
His disciples never thought
That He’d end up like this
So ended His time in the garden
I wonder if they had wished
They had spent more time with Him
Before the betrayer’s kiss

(Luke 22:39-48)
