THE BAPTISM OF JESUS

The people gathered to the riverside to see this man named John
He preached a message of repentance that was needed for so long
As each came to confess their sin and in the water went
They came out feeling so clean as their sins they did repent

John told all who stood around that the Kingdom of God was at hand
He said he wasn't the Messiah, he was His messenger, a man
Then as he turned and saw Jesus his heart must have leapt for joy
He said Behold the Lamb of God, what a strange reply!!!

To his amazement Jesus came to baptized by him
John didn't know what to do, he felt so unworthy within
But Jesus said, Let it be, so the water they went in
And there John baptized God's Son who had no sin

When Jesus went into the water the heavens opened above
The Spirit of the Living God descended on Him like a dove
A voice was heard to say when it was all done
I am well pleased with Him for this is My Beloved' Son

John knew his work on earth would soon come to an end
For the Messiah He had come to save men from their sin
He was God's spotless Lamb sent to take their sins away
If only the people knew who it was John baptized that day.

(Matthew 3:1-17)
