LAZARUS AND THE RICH MAN

There was a certain rich man
Who was clothed in fine clothes
He ate only the best food
He had the best as life goes
Then there was a beggar
Who was laid at his gate
He was so full of sores
Who knows when last he ate

He desired to eat the crumbs
Which from the man’s table did fall
The dogs at least licked him
The rich man did nothing at all
Then one day the beggar died
To Abraham’s bosom he went
The rich man died and was buried
To hell was where he was sent

In hell he lifted up his eyes
His soul was in such torment
I guess he finally realized
It was too late to repent
He saw Lazarus in Abraham’s bosom
He knew what he had done
Still he asked Lazarus to come
And with water cool his tongue

Abraham told him, son
In life you had good things
Lazarus had evil given to him
Now you see what greed brings
He is now in comfort
While in torment you do dwell
Lazarus is in a good place
You ended up in hell

There is a great gulf fixed
So no one can’t come here
And there is no way
Anyone can go there
For everyone has a chance
To live their lives the best
Those who go their own way
Will never end up blessed

So while you live on earth
Live the best you can
Do everything you can do
To help your fellow man
Live to please God above
For He sees all you do
Where you eventually end up
Is entirely up to you

(Luke 16:19-26)
