So he sent for Balaam to curse them on their way
He said if he would curse them a high price he'd pay
God told Balaam to go, but say what He told him to
But Balaam was over anxious, to the Lord he was not true
And so God sought to kill him and sent an angel to stand in the way
He waited for Balaam to come by to kill him there that day
The ass on which Balaam was riding saw the angel standing there
She saw the sword in his hand, of Balaam's plight she was aware
She tried all she could try to keep her master from being hurt
When she crushed him against a wall he beat her down to the dirt
God did what only God could do and opened the mouth of the ass
She spoke to Balaam that day, why are you hitting me she asked
Have I not been faithful to you, have you not ridden me every day
Then the Lord opened Balaam's eyes and he saw the angel in the way
The angel then told Balaam he should be thankful for the ass
For she had saved her master's life by not allowing him to pass
Balaam knew that he had sinned, he knew what he had to do
He had to listen to God's words and speak what God told him to
So him and Balak parted and Balaam returned to his place
He couldn't curse God's people, for they were His chosen race.
