Scripture Luke 22:47-54, 61-62

What a trying time this was for the disciples. Judas had betrayed Jesus and their first instinct was violence. One of them cut off the ear of the High Priest's servant. Jesus' reaction was still one of love. He reached out His hand and healed the servants ear. They carried Jesus away and Peter followed a far off. This was the same Peter who a short time ago told Jesus that He was ready to die for Him. Now he was seen almost hiding so he wouldn't be counted as one of the disciples. We might look at Peter and say that we would never do what he did.

However, are there times in our Christian experience when we too might have followed Jesus a far off? Maybe we grew a little bit weary and fell behind in our witnessing for Him. Maybe there were times when we should have told someone about the Lord and didn't because we were afraid of what they might say.

Further on we read of how when Peter denied Jesus, Jesus turned and looked at him. Can you possible imagine how Peter felt when Jesus looked him in the face while he was denying that he knew Him? It tells us that Peter went out and wept bitterly.

Have you failed the Lord? If you have, repent before Him and He will restore you.

Don't follow Jesus too far off,
You may just lose your way.
Restore your fellowship with Him,
Get on your knees and pray 1
