Scripture Matthew 13:24-30

In this passage Jesus is telling His disciples another parable. While Jesus was with His disciples, He told stories and compared them to things they were familiar with. Simple things that they saw everyday, common things of their time, things that the disciples knew and understood.

This time He told them a parable of the kingdom of Heaven being likened unto a man that sowed wheat in his field. He sowed good seed, but while he slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat. The servant asked if he should gather the tares up, but the master said no. He knew that if the tares were taken up, the wheat would be uprooted also. He told the servant to let them grow together until harvest, then he would gather the wheat into his barn and burn the tares.

This story can be compared to the believer and nonbeliever today. We may live together on this earth with sin abounding on every side, but just as the tares and wheat were treated differently, so will the believer and nonbeliever when Jesus comes in all His Glory. Jesus compared the two as sheep and goats.

Matthew 25:33 says that He will set the sheep on His right side and the goats on His left. He'll tell the sheep, the believers, to enter into His kingdom that He has prepared for them. Sad to say, the goats, the unbeliever, will be condemned to hell. What category do you fall under today? Are you a sheep or a goat?

A sheep or goat,
Which are you today?
When you stand before God,
Your life, will it pay?
