In this scripture we see where Jesus was 40 days in the wilderness without food, and naturally He was hungry. And wouldn't you know it, at His weakest point, Satan came along to tempt Him.
We can learn a great lesson from this passage. Every time Satan tempted Jesus, Jesus came against the temptation with the word of God. His every reply against Satan began with the words, “IT IS WRITTEN!"
We can follow the example of our Saviour. When Satan tries to tempt us, we too can stand up to him with the word of God and say, “IT IS WRITTEN!" The word of God is security in every situation. Jesus said in Matthew 24:35, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my word will not pass away." PRAISE GOD, it is eternal.
Verse 13 says that Satan left Jesus for a season, and it's the same with anyone who is born again. Satan may leave us alone for a season, but you can be assured that he will be back. We have to be on guard at all times, well grounded in God's word and with our full armour on. We can come out victorious.
